Inspiring, informative, and aligned podcasts for the seekers out there
If you’re like me, you love to be learning ALL THE TIME. Even though I’m a musician, and have been obsessed with listening to (and singing along with) music since I was a very young child, in 2020 I began listening to podcasts instead of music while cooking for my clients. Perhaps something about the stagnancy of the outer world during the global pandemic encouraged a deeper need for movement, exploring, and expanding in my inner world. I have listened to a wide range of topics, including Human Design, astrology, epigenetics, hormones, the keto diet, marketing for small businesses, sexual enlightenment, autoimmunity, and the analysis of popular music. I have gone down many rabbitholes, and listened to plenty of podcasts I could not stand. I am quite particular about the voices of the hosts, and sometimes even if the info is on point, the voice of the podcaster will deter me. So! I thought it might be helpful to share my top recommendations for podcasts in each of these categories, in case you’re looking to dive deeper into any of these topics.
Let’s start with Human Design. I love DayLuna because it’s two women discussing diverse and convergent aspects of Human Design, sometimes with expert guests, sometimes just the two of them. They’re best buddies, and their love for each other, their audience, and the topics at hand really shine through. Divinely Human is another prime example of a host’s voice and vibe that I thoroughly enjoy. The Moon Mother’s energy is radiant, her info is crucial, and her topics are so relatable. Check her out! Another favorite podcast dealing with the magical and mysterious world of HD is The Human Design Podcast. I love the host’s positive attitude, and she has SO many episodes spanning a huge variety of topics, but always bringing it back around to Human Design. I also enjoy Reframe with Jenna Zoë. She is a seeker, she remains open, and it almost feels like she’s channeling the info she shares. She’s very learned, totally informed, and lovely to listen to. Her website is a great resource if you’re looking to explore your HD bodygraph further!
When it comes to astrology, I have one queen, and her name is Chani. I have followed Chani for nearly a decade now, and she’s been in the game far longer than that. She is a joy to listen to, ever hopeful yet acutely aware and tuned into social justice issues, and she recently launched a new app that is fabulous. She also wrote a new book called You Were Born For This that I promptly read cover to cover and would highly recommend for anyone looking to dig deeper with their astrology comprehension. I frequently find myself hitting up Mercurial Musings with Cara Kovacs for a second vantage point, and she always has something powerful to share in her channelings. Cara also has a reliably uplifting Instagram presence, and shares her body, mind, and spirit unapologetically from a quarantine apartment in NYC. Absolutely love her.
In terms of mindset, there is no one more scrumptious than Lacy Phillips of To Be Magnetic. Her unique manifestation protocol blends neuroscience, psychology, and is founded on her personal energetic gifts and channelings. I have gleaned so much from the dozens of episodes of her podcast Expanded, and I know you will too. And her low alto voice is soothing and welcoming, which I find so vital.
If you’re ready for some opening sexually, GET READY for Kim Anami. What a force. Her podcast Orgasmic Enlightenment covers any and every topic tangentially related to sexual power and enjoyment, and I absolutely love her deeply empowering viewpoint.
My favorite diet and nutrition podcasts most recently center on keto, because I’ve been eating mostly organic, colorful veggies, a small amount of sustainable animal protein, and loads of happy healthy fats for nearly 10 months now, and I feel FANTASTIC. The Keto Diet Podcast is a tremendous resource for me, as I trust it will be for you if you’re interested in clearer thinking, shedding fat, happier joints, and better sleep. I also adore Keto For Women Show. Both of these podcasts focus on relatable and common issues with the keto diet, and they both answer questions from listeners. I feel very held by this community of women, and I know if I ever encounter a problem or have a question with my dietary plan, I can reach out to them and they will be there with an expert response. So grateful for them! The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast is also a fantastic resource from the two gals who wrote one of my favorite cookbooks of all time, The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook. A must read if you’re looking for that next level of healing.
And finally, music. The Jump with Shirley Manson is such a delight, as the frontwoman of Garbage interviews (mostly women) musicians about any one song that they choose. Because Shirley is and has always been such a badass, musicians give her a perhaps more honest, candid look at the truth behind their creations. A must listen. I thoroughly enjoy the connections made and the tangents taken in This Is Not A Drake Podcast. Super fascinating and interesting twists and turns, and seemingly unrelated topics always connect back to other artists and pop culture, similar to a seven degrees of Kevin Bacon sort of game. I also quickly took to Song Exploder, because it is SO fascinating, and I really dig the host Hrishikesh Hirway’s voice. He actually interviews mega famous musicians about one song in particular, and they take us on the journey of how it was made. I respect Hirway so much because he edits the episodes himself too, and even branched out into doing episodes of the show on Netflix! And last but not least, because I think this might be my favorite of them all, Switched On Pop. A songwriter and musicologist host the show, and each episode is basically a super in depth analysis of a favorite current pop song. While Hirway is actually interviewing the artists in Song Exploder, and those episodes primarily consist of that artist speaking about their own work, Switched hosts analyze a pop song from their own learned perspectives. It may sound surface or even banal, but it is anything but, at least for a music nerd like me. Highly recommended, because the hosts are ridiculous, well informed, and fun. And there’s nothing wrong with a little fun.
